Kesh! My Favorite Lady in the Whole World!

I was introduced to Kesh's world on a hair blog called Mane and Chic. Mane and Chic posted Kesh's decision to shave her hair off one side of her head. (Waaaaaay before Cassie did it). So anyways, I've been following her blog for a while and I just loooooooove her style. It's so ecclectic and everything that I'm scared to try, but she also has many talents. She's a designer, photographer, model, dj, and a whole bunch of other things. Check out her blog. She takes the most amazing pictures too! Therealkesh.blogspot.com.

Oh. and here's a video of her in an interview, I always wanted to know what she sounds like!

Accutane Has Popped Its Last Pimple

For those of you who have been relying on Accutane’s miracle-working abilities as the acne eradicator, some sad news: It was recently announced that Roche Holding AG, the pharmaceutical company behind the wonder drug, has decided to pull it from shelves. (Those of you who have suffered from Accutane’s laundry list of side effects, including possible birth defects, severe depression, and bowel disease, are likely less sad.) According to our blogging compatriots over at Allure, the decision to discontinue the pills has nothing to do with their safety or efficacy and was purely a financial decision, seeing as how the company faces as many as 5,000 personal-injury claims involving the product. Roche’s patent also expired in 2002, meaning there are a lot of generic options that use similar breakout-fighting technology on the market and in the works. Looks like the “Accutane defense” will no longer hold up in court.

This is scary. I've never considered Accutane because of the super dangerous side effects, but I've tried many many many things. When I got off birth control, my acne went psycho. I've been trying some natural methods that seem to be working, slowly, but there is improvement.

Sometimes I Really Hate Craigslist

I had an interview three months ago for an internship with a marketing firm. I found out about the position on Craigslist. They have a client that has a clothing line whose concept was 'clothing for girls who hunt'. At the moment they have only t-shirts, hoodies, and pajama short and things like that. They want to expand their line to make it more fashion foward and sell it in boutiques and Walmart.

So, I met up with this woman, showed her my portfolio, and presented some ideas. She seemed to really like what I had to say. She asked me to send her some sketches. Here are a few that I sent

I was so proud of my work! I don't know anything about hunting and I thought I really got the camoflauge, and the gazillion zippers and flap pockets concept of hunting clothing, and I created that in a feminine way.

So she told me that I would hear from her the next day. After not hearing anything for a week, I sent her an email. After another week, I sent another email. She responded and said that she wasn't able to show my work to the company yet. I contacted her one more time another week later and I haven't heard anything, even still to this day!

So what was the point of all that?! Are they gonna steal my designs and not pay me or give me credit? Did they hate it? I'm very very very happy with my internship now, but I still think about it and I get upset. It was very mean to get my hopes up about being a part of designing a clothing line. Anyways I'm ranting. At least I got to practice some drawing...

Internship at Shopmasons.com

My internship at Shopmasons.com has been great so far! I've pretty much learned how to manage the site. I upload the images, make product copy for them, which is describing the garment or the product. I also make the suggestions for the products too. I've been shipping the orders, pulling products for the photoshoots, and even running to get coffee. I feel like a real intern! It sounds corny, but I love being the assistant type. I'm really enjoying my time there and I even got a $150 gift card last week! I bought this bag!

How To Tame Unruly Curls

I was reading this article on Ivillage.com and I thought I'd share it because these are the methods that I use for defined frizz-free curls (click on the title for full article). I should also let you know that I stopped using chemical relaxers a year ago (exactly in June 2008) and I am currently transitioning. I am in the process of a long term transition, which means I will slowly chop off the relaxed ends of my hair until I only have my complete natural texture. I did my first "big trim" two days ago after a year of transitioning. So far, I am loving the process.

Here are some tips from the article...

-First, love your curls
-If you shampoo, use sulfate-free shapoos- I stopped using shampoos a year ago and it has done wonders for the health of my hair. I only wash with conditioner which has cleansing ingredients in them as well.
-Condition, Condition, Condition- After rinsing conditioner, I always add more for detangling and leave-in purposes for extra hydration. This leave-in method is the secret for fighting frizz. This will not work for all types of hair.
-Do not towel dry. Blot with a t shirt or paper towels. This is a part of preventing frizzy hair.
-After applying products and styling, leave hair alone until it dries- More fighting against frizz
-Sleep on a satin pillowcase
-Scrunch the curls for definition and volume- this does not work for me and creates frizz
-Find the right product for your curl texture and don't use too much, but also don't use too little-Air dry as often as possible
-If you must use heat, use a diffuser
-Get a good hair cut and interview your stylist about their knowledge of curls- I completely don't trust a stylist. No one knows how to manage my hair like me!
