June Ambrose Launches A Line of Turbans

From Clutch Magazine:

It wasn’t too long ago that we sang stylist du jour, June Ambrose‘s praises for her impeccable sartorial sense. Her signature look, comprised of an Hermes Birkin Bag, statement shoes, red lips and of course, a turban, is loved by bloggers, editors and celebrities alike.

A veteran celebrity stylist, June is now making an element of her celebrated style available to all with her first-ever line of turbans. The collection is pure “June”; it embodies luxury and style and is flawless in construction and design.

Ranging from $125 to $150, the turbans come in an array of rich colors like gold, fuschia and teal and prints like leopard and zig-zag. The names like Sassy, Empress and Decadent are a nod to June’s glamorous, larger-than-life personality.

For tips on tying your turban with June’s dramatic flair, check out her tutorial in the May 2011 issue of Ebony Magazine.

*I've never worn a turban, but I love head scarves (never been bold enough to wear them outside of the house). I think I might try this with my own fabric from my friend Joann Fabrics.

The Keratin Straightening Controversy

From Bella Sugar

Trouble for a popular hair straightening treatment, the Brazilian Blowout, started brewing back in September when Oregon's OSHA released alarming results of its study. While Brazilian Blowout products are advertised as formaldehyde-free, OSHA found higher-than-allowable percentages of the toxin in all samples tested. A similar study by the Canadian government also concluded the solution had "unacceptable levels of formaldehyde."

Everyone from the state of California to Cosmetologists Chicago has chimed in since then. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review is holding a panel to discuss the issue in the next few weeks. The makers of Brazilian Blowout, however, claim the testing methods were flawed. We're guessing this issue won't be straightened out before 2011.

House of Dereon New Dress Collection

Per Fabsugar

Beyonce and her mom Tina are busy ladies. Besides launching the Sasha Fierce collection, House of Deréon is designing a collection of day dresses for Spring. There will be a few dress and jacket ensembles, as well as jumpsuits in materials like washed rayon, silk, sateen, and spandex knit. "Beyoncé and I have had several occasions where we have meetings all day and don’t have time to run and change before dinner. This is a perfect collection to wear from the office to dinner because each piece can easily be dressed up or down," Tina Knowles said. The collection wholesales from $70 to $100 and will be available at select high-end department and specialty retailers.

As for the future? "I’m really hoping we can go into accessories really soon, especially jewelry. And as for shoes, that’s completely Beyoncé’s thing."

See more from House of Deréon's daywear line.

I don't understand The House of Dereon. They started off as a streetwear brand with their name blasted all over their clothes just like all the other similar brands. Then they 'glammed' up with evening gowns. Now, there are these day dresses, which look like Rachael Roy knock offs to me. I think they're trying too hard or they are changing their vision too often for me. I just don't know.

Burt's Bees' Natural Solution to Acne

(From Happi.com)

New line uses salicylic acid from willows.
Burt's Bees' new Natural Acne Solutions line contains salicylic acid derived from willow trees. The line, targeted to 18-24 year-olds, includes purifying gel cleanser, pore refining scrub, daily moisturizing lotion and a targeted spot treatment. The line debuted this week. All items in the line retail for $9.99 except for the moisturizer, which costs $17.99.

According to data from Information Resources, Inc., sales of acne products reached $371.8 million for the latest 52-week period ended June 16, an increase of 1.2% in the food, drug, mass and natural channels. Sales do not include Whole Foods and Wal-Mart data.

I've never tried Burt's Bees products. I don't know why. I guess when I read the labels, the ingredients are hard to read and sound like chemicals to me, which doesn't seem very natural to me. I have a huge interest in natural beauty products. If I read good reviews of this product, I might give it a try.

Accutane Has Popped Its Last Pimple

For those of you who have been relying on Accutane’s miracle-working abilities as the acne eradicator, some sad news: It was recently announced that Roche Holding AG, the pharmaceutical company behind the wonder drug, has decided to pull it from shelves. (Those of you who have suffered from Accutane’s laundry list of side effects, including possible birth defects, severe depression, and bowel disease, are likely less sad.) According to our blogging compatriots over at Allure, the decision to discontinue the pills has nothing to do with their safety or efficacy and was purely a financial decision, seeing as how the company faces as many as 5,000 personal-injury claims involving the product. Roche’s patent also expired in 2002, meaning there are a lot of generic options that use similar breakout-fighting technology on the market and in the works. Looks like the “Accutane defense” will no longer hold up in court.

This is scary. I've never considered Accutane because of the super dangerous side effects, but I've tried many many many things. When I got off birth control, my acne went psycho. I've been trying some natural methods that seem to be working, slowly, but there is improvement.
